I don't want to exercise today, but I will

It's Saturday morning just before 8am and I'm trying to find a reason not to go do my stuff. They say you can always find a reason NOT to do something, right? I need to do this, so I will.
Here I go...

The best time to do it is when you least want to do it. You'll feel twice as good when you finish the workout. Get it done early because if you wait until later, you'll come up with lots and lots of reasons why you can't fit that workout into your day.."oh I just ate lunch and I can't exercise on a full stomach", or, "I've gotta be somewhere in an hour and I just don't have time to get in a full workout". You get the point...

Take it from another 40-something guy that just started exercising a year ago, don't try and "shock" yourself into anything. Run a mile after sitting on the couch for the last 20 years and you'll be so sore you might never want to do it again. Ease into it for a few weeks, you'll minimize your risk of injury.

That's great. I am not a morning person at all, and have found that if I just put on my unitard (yes, ugly) when I get home from work, I feel I HAVE to exercise....else why am I wearing this thing? It really works for me, prods me into the living room and pop in the exercise tape. I usually feel much better for doing it than not, as was said. Good for you though, you will feel better and better.

My boss and I sent you an e-mail after you sent out your last news letter and offered for you to come try a micro-current treatment and a sudatonic body wrap. We would like to let you know the same offer still stands. It really helps in jump starting a weight loss and exercise program, I fell this would really help you to reach your goal even faster. It will also help you to have extra moativation on those days you really dont want to exercise because it increases your ATP, helps strengthen your muscles quicker, and burns body fat. You should come give it a try...what do you have to lose except a few inches and some body fat pecentage. :) Check it out at Chrysalisspa.net. Best of luck and good for you on taking the right steps to feel better about yourself.

Sam, just want to start by saying I think you look good with or without the extra "chunk" :->
It's always nice to hear that even if you aren't feeling it.

The good news is the holidays are coming and walking your neighborhoods 3 times a week could be more fun in the evenings because of all the decorations people put up ~ starting with Halloween! You can end up walking several different routes before you've seen everything and makes exercising a bit more interesting.

Best of luck!

Good for you, Sam! I'm with you (and everyone else): you have to get it done early. I was up at 7:30 this morning (Sunday) and out the door by 8:00 for my walk. Once I get out there, it feels great! But I'm also a 40-something who has only started exercising recently because...well, the older you get, the more you just can't sit on the couch and expect biology to be on your side. Looking forward to following your progress on this blog!

Love the blog "accountability" idea - plus, admittedly, another forum to enjoy your sense of humor. I already enjoy your cooking (and yep, I have your book). I post my weight on my blog for the same accountability, or motivation, or guilt - whatever you wanna call it. It does help! Wishing you great success - I'll be with ya!

Hey Sam...

good for you... it's really all about the your health (hey, we need you around to teach us all those amazing recipes for a long time!)

Remember the three 'pillars' of exercising..
Flexibility (remember to stretch....especially at YOUR age :-)
Strength (push ups, pull ups etc)...this will actually take quite a few calories because it keeps your metabolism burning for a longer period of time)
Cardio (like your doing on the canyon near your house). The best results come after 30 minutes of consistent, but not necessarily hard cardio workout, with you heart rate slightly elevated (not too high, not too low)

I weighed over 210 lbs (I'm 5'7) a year ago, started exercising, did a few triathlons, and now weigh 155...

Good for you for doing this....it will inspire ton's of folks...

and it will be fun to hear your journey (hey you might want to sign up for a race!)

good luck

I agree that the best way is to exercise. i believe eating well and exercise is the best way to maintain a healthy and good looking body.Me, I rely on my fitness cards. it is a bit tiring but that's the way life should be.

I hate to think that some people rather choose a surgery.

Just go an do it dear.
